Kids are always getting the best Christmas has to offer, but what about the adults? But who says they should have all the fun when there are Christmas Eve box ideas for adults out there, too.
Heeeey!
I’ve got a question for you.
Why do kids get to have all of the fun?
I’m just not about it. Listen, dude, I want Christmas Eve presents just like the little ones.
There’s nostalgia in watching kids opening presents from Santa on Christmas morning, but there’s also a tradition I started last year (2020) with my partner of a Christmas Eve box. Why? Because I felt like it. Duh!
So, you’re probably wondering what to get adults for Christmas then, huh?
I’ll just say, it’s so much fun seeing an adult open a present that they didn’t even expect the night before Christmas. Plus, I know I can’t be the only one who is interested in figuring out what to get someone for such a cool tradition (which is why I wrote this!).
And no matter if you’re looking for things for Christmas Eve or the big Christmas day all of these are here to save the day for your Christmas box fit for the adults you’re trying to spoil.

What Things Go In A Christmas Eve Box?
Anything goes really. However, in order to keep it a bit more on the festive side lean towards Christmas-related items that you’re less likely to put together during any other season.

What Do You Put in a Christmas Eve Box for Adults?
I decided that instead of just things you can put inside of a box (although there are quite a lot) I wanted to give you the idea of an actual box that you could consider alongside it as well.
Don’t forget to read the blurb underneath as the idea is a little bit more fleshed out and a few of the boxes have extra items you can put inside. You don’t have to limit yourself to my list either as there’s a bunch of stuff to put in Christmas Eve boxes that I didn’t write here.
1 // Comfortable Christmas Pajamas Box
My boyfriend received his first pair of Christmas PJs last holiday season and he loved them so much he was wearing them well into March. I 100% suggest you grab them early as everyone is thinking about getting them as much as you want them.
Extra items to put inside: Christmas socks, holiday scented perfume, comfy slippers, and a red robe.
2 // Gift Cards
This can be one of those, “Just in case you don’t like anything tomorrow” situations or for a friend who you are still getting to know and don’t know what to get. There are other situations, but honestly, everyone loves a well-thought-out gift card. Get them a generic Visa, Mastercard, or American Express card instead of something store-bought for extra points.
3 // A Beverage Box
Let me explain. Anytime you think of Christmas what do you think of? Hot cocoa. Right, but what about a Hot Toddy? Or a homemade bottle of Sangria? Eggnog! Packing them a box full of beverages they can sip for the rest of the holiday season is a sure winner in anyone’s book.
Extra items to put inside: a holiday-themed mug, champagne glasses, marshmallows, chocolate, and seasonal nips.
4 // Ugly Christmas Sweater Box
This is a cut-and-dry hilarious tradition of an ugly Christmas sweater. Of course, that’s if the adult you’re gifting it to finds things like this to be amazing. You can help someone start or expand their sweater collection!
Extra items to include: “ugly” Christmas themed headband and ugly Christmas socks.
5 // Gingerbread House Kit
This one is great if you’re looking for things to do the night before Christmas that have less to do with gifts but more on-trend with Christmas traditions (I’m jealous of you). That means that if you give a gingerbread house to one person your best bet is giving someone the beverage kit so that it would be beneficial for a fun evening of treats!
6 // Board Game
Find an uncommon game to gift to someone and play it that same night!
7 // A Movie Box
Make it Christmas-themed for extra pizzazz, but get someone a movie they’ve been waiting for and put it on after playing that board game … or making that gingerbread house. Whatever works for you.
Extra things to throw in: popcorn, candy, and a Christmas blanket.
8 // A Spa Box
This would be a fantastic box idea for the person in your life who put a lot of effort into making Christmas really special this year. Pack together some bath bombs ready for the holiday season, a new robe, and holiday-scented bubble bath and you’re all set.
Cool things to add: a bottle of champagne and fuzzy socks.
9 // Bottle of Wine
Easy-peasy kind of gift where it doesn’t take too much extra thought (but can also be very thoughtful if you take the time out to remember what they actually like). You can pair this bottle with some cheese and crackers, too.
10 // Sweets Box
Christmas is a pretty sweet holiday, right? If the adult you’re gifting has a big sweet tooth (like me!), a sweets box is incredibly thoughtful. Fill it with homemade cookies, hot cocoa, chocolate, and even a way for them to make a cake in a mug. This is an easy “box” idea that is sure to please.
11 // Books
Got a bookworm? You can’t go wrong with a book. Take the time to think about the kind of book you’d like to gift them and do double-duty to find something unique that they may not have heard of or read. There’s a lot of fun in looking for something obscure.
Great additions: a Christmas teacup, tea sachets, honey, and a scarf.

12 // Ornament
I didn’t grow up with personalized ornaments. All of the ornaments on our childhood trees were from big box stores that held no sentimental value. You can change that for people like me who didn’t have it that good growing up. Getting someone (or making one) a personalized ornament can really be lovely and incredibly thoughtful.
13 // Candle
Easy to find, come in an array of prices, and a wide selection. It’s hard to go wrong with a neutral gift like a candle.
14 // S’mores
I am a softie for a good s’more. Did you know that they make square-shaped marshmallows for the purposes of s’mores now? Genius.
Grab some quality chocolate, delicious graham crackers, marshmallows, and pack it all up.
This can be a really nostalgic gift for someone who misses fall and wants a taste of that season easily in their hands.
You can mix this is up by adding in chocolates like Reese’s cups, adding sprinkles, or even some caramel. Throw those all into a Christmas-themed mug and you’re good to go!
I wanted to include gift boxes that would be more sentimental here, too, so here goes!
15 // A Christmas Carol
We have all seen (and if you haven’t, why?) A Christmas Carol, a story about an old curmudgeon of a man who is taken through his past, present, and future Christmases. Take your favorite adult through three spades of life by gifting them three separate boxes.
One on Christmas Eve (representing Christmas past), one on Christmas (for Christmas present), and another the day after (Christmas future).
Christmas past can be trinkets from the past whether they be an old VHS from their Christmas childhood, an old ornament tucked away and “lost”, or something to remember a resting member of their family that they loved dearly. It could even be something like their favorite old Christmas movie, too.
Christmas present can be whatever you make it, after all, it’s in the present.
And Christmas future? This could be fantastic for the person trying to propose, maybe? It could even be a way to tell the family that you’re expecting or even moving. You could include items that would be for future Christmases such as a party entertainment kit or something of the sort.
Overall this box idea is my favorite of them all and it’s something I can’t wait to do one day.
16 // Worldwide Christmas Traditions Box
Coming up with a box of traditional Christmas treats, trinkets, and traditions can be a great way to get into the Christmas spirit and also thinking of ways to do Christmas better next year.
It can also help someone feel at home in a new country, too by showing them that you acknowledge the traditions they had back home.
Thoughtful items to add: (this example is based on someone coming from Australia) stone fruit like cherries, mangoes, and apricots, candles to sing carols with, and a vial of sand to represent the Australian way of going to the beach for Christmas.
17 // A Nutcracker
I bought my very first nutcracker during the last holiday season. While it may not seem like a big deal …gifting a nutcracker can signify that you are passing on strength and power to the giftee. It is said to bring protection and good luck over a home as it bares its teeth to ward off evil.
So the next time you see one of those finely dressed soldiers, pick one up and think about the people you love.
The Case for the Contents of Christmas Eve Box for Adults
As you can see, there’s a lot that you can do to give a little more during the holiday season.
Whether you’re doing a gift box Christmas swap or even a white elephant party keep it simple, but also thoughtful and you truly cannot go wrong.
