Turn every day into an adventure by experiencing everything there is to offer in your backyard and beyond. Here are 9 tips to figure out how to have an adventure by yourself!
Happy Fri-yay!
Are you waiting on that perfect moment to go on a trip with your group of friends?
Oh, wait. There’s the friend who is cash-strapped or the new parents or the unreliable friend who gets super excited about doing something but then flakes?
You’re probably thinking you’ll never travel anytime soon if you have to wait on people around you. So, why not do it on your own? There’s nothing worse than missing out on perfect opportunities to have them dashed away by people who are unwilling or unable to commit.
But … you’re afraid or you just have no idea how to do it.
Well, let me tell you something – it’s like going on a trip with your friends but just you. So plan your solo adventure as though you were traveling with your best friends.
Or maybe you’re not even looking to go on an actual trip, maybe your day-to-day is just mundane and you’re trying to find the fun around you. Cool, that works, too. I do that, too.
Whatever your reason, it doesn’t matter, we’re here to figure out how to have an adventure by yourself, right? Right. Let’s go!
Table of Adventures
1 // You have to believe adventure is everywhere
This makes going on an adventure by yourself all that more attainable. If you think that going on an adventure means you need to hop on a plane, you’re wrong.
Adventure is literally in your backyard. It could mean creating a treehouse for all you know, but believing that adventure is in your backyard keeps you from daydreaming about things that may make you upset.
2 // Throw your self-doubt out the window
You can absolutely do this on your own, whatever this adventure is. Your adventure doesn’t always have to be travel-related, it can be professionally, hobby-wise, or anything in between.
This adventure is what you make of it and you can’t think that you can’t do this or else you’ll never do it. You may end up regretting it at the end of the day and that 100% sucks.
3 // Take a risk
I believe that taking a risk, in whatever you do, reaps the most rewards. So why not with adventures?
Remember #2 – throw your self-doubt out the window and take that risk! You have no idea what you could learn about yourself in the process of doing this.
4 // Find your center wherever you land
If you’ve decided to go on a country-hopping adventure or even a local one, knowing your “hub” (so-to-speak) is really important. It will bring you back to a point where you feel the most comfortable if you’re feeling like running away.
It should be a place that reminds you of why you decided to go on this adventure by yourself, and it can always be changed if you find somewhere that centers you better.
5 // Be spontaneous (or don’t!)
Do what makes you feel most comfortable in everything that you’re doing. There’s absolutely no obligation for you to be spontaneous, but try to be if you can.
That’s what having an adventure is all about! Say you’ve decided on doing a five-day trip to Paris, instead of planning your every waking moment give yourself the option to wander aimlessly around those beautiful Parisian streets.
You’ll be amazed at what you find when you’re not pressed for time.
6 // Do things differently
A really simple way to find some adventure is to change up your everyday. Instead of driving to work try taking the train. It could be the right amount of adventure you need.
From there you may want to get off one stop before your actual stop and take a walk home and see all the cool places around you that never even noticed were around! You may find your favorite flower shop that way.
7 // Try new things when your routine is becoming just that, routine
This speaks for itself (and is honestly different from #6). You don’t need to travel to try new things.
You can experience something like culture right from your own home by making a new dish or maybe heading to a different part of the city you live in.
8 // Find a friend wherever you are
I say this not in an attempt to say that you need them, but having a local where you are means having a real connection to the space you are now occupying.
They will give you secrets to the best places to go to that are off the beaten Instagram path and that will make your adventure that much more fulfilling.
9 // Find inspiration in the little things
And be happy about them. Relish in their presence and be open to the possibilities of there being more little things to inspire you on your solo adventure.
Maybe that parachute you saw on a little kid’s backpack will empower you to try skydiving. You really never know.
Conclusion on How to Be Adventurous Every Day
Irrespective of your choice on going on a solo travel adventure or not, be as adventurous as you possibly can wherever and whenever you can find that inspirational spark to do so.
